Biographical Information

Samuel Jolliffe (the elder) was the father of the Bristol shoemaker Samuel Joliffe Confirmed. He was born about 1810 in Dorset Confirmed and had settled at Bristol, where on 3 February 1833 he married Jane Gorton (b. ~1814, Bristol) at St James' Priory Church; they raised their family in St Philip & Jacob. Jane died in 1857. He appears with Jane in the 1851 census at St Philips, Bristol, where their son Samuel (b. 1841) is enumerated as a child alongside siblings George, Elizabeth, Thomas, Mary and Jane.
