He is absent from BOTH the 1881 and 1891 Bristol census households of Samuel & Emma (which show only Caroline, Frederick and — later — Edith surviving), and no christening record names him as their child. He was most likely confused in from another Bristol Jolliffe family and should not be treated as a sibling.

An early (Session 57) reading tentatively placed a "John" in the 1891 Samuel Jolliffe household, but the fuller 1881/1891 census work found only Caroline, Frederick and (later) Edith surviving — no John. That tentative placement is superseded.Rejected
CONFIRMED SPURIOUS (Session 69): a targeted birth-index search — surname Joliffe/Jolliffe, father Samuel + mother Emma, born Bristol 1873–1882 — returns no John born to this couple. The nearest Bristol-area hits are a different child (Henry J Jolliff, b.1875 Brislington) and an unrelated Alfred John Jolliffe (b.1879, d. infancy 1880). Combined with his absence from both census households and the lack of any christening, "John Jolliffe (b.1876)" is confirmed not a child of Samuel & Emma and should be dropped as a sibling.Rejected
